News This Week: Fire Recovery and Innovation

Posted on May 04, 2018 by Admin

The recovery from the Tubbs fire is continuing with construction of dozens of homes in Coffey Park, but a lot of work still needs to be done. It is great to see the community starting to rebuild after such devastation. “There’s not as much movement as one would think six months out,” said Jeff Okrepkie, chairman of the Coffey Strong neighborhood group. “You want to see more happening.”

Sotheby’s International has partnered with the non-profit New Story to create the first permitted 3D printed home. This new technology could be coming to your home soon, but first it will be used to help people in need.  “A defining factor of this new technology is that it will be used first in the developing world, in El Salvador, for people who are currently living without shelter, a basic human need.”

As tiny homes gain popularity, some companies are betting that you will want to stay in one. Getaway provides the opportunity to stay in a tiny cabin while discovering a deeper connection with the outdoors. “Architecturally, we think of ourselves less as designing a great tiny cabin and more as designing the perfect piece of hardware to get into nature.”

Californians now have a new option for financing a solar installation on their home. Guild Mortgage is offering mortgage lending that will allow owners and buyers to add solar to their home. “FHA Solar is ideal for individuals who are looking to buy a home that they plan to live in for several years and realize the return on their investment. It will also be attractive to customers who want to lower their monthly utility bill and have a greener footprint.”
